What is a System Boiler?

What are the advantages of a System Boiler?

A System Boiler eliminates the need for a cold water feed tank in your loft by heating water straight from the mains, like a combi boiler making them ideal for installation in flats or where a dry roof space is required. The hot water is pumped directly from the system boiler through the heating system to the radiators and hot water cylinder, resulting in a fast response and more economical running costs.

System boilers have all of their components built into the boiler, offering a compact and attractive cost effective installation. With a conventional heating and hot water system a separate feed and expansion cistern and circulating pump are required to be installed. The system boiler incorporates all the major components built-in. All system boilers are pre-wired, pre-plumbed and pre-tested for greater reliability as well as a quicker and neater installation. They also allow you to do away with the loft tank, freeing up more space in your home and leaving you with less external components to maintain.

System boilers utilise a hot water storage tank in the same way as regular open vent boilers. By keeping the hot water in a storage tank the system boiler can provide hot water for more than one outlet and typically at a higher pressure than a Combi boiler.  The storage of hot water in the hot water cylinder means that the boiler is less dependent upon flow of water from the cold water mains and can be used in areas where the water pressure is too low for a Combi boiler to be used.
